Two Cluster of the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan successful

Of twelve applications which qualified for the decisive final round of the top cluster competion two are from the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan area: the “Forum Organic Electronics” cluster and the “Cell-Based & Molecular Medicine” biotechnology cluster.

The “Cell-Based & Molecular Medicine” (BioRN) biotechnology cluster consists of about 100 partners from industry, science and politics. In the field of science, these are several working groups from different institutes and clinics of the Elite University of Heidelberg, the German Cancer Research Centre (DKFZ) and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL). In addition, there are large companies such as Roche, Merck, BASF and SAP as well as about 30 small and medium-sized biotechnology companies. Financial investors in the cluster include the Dietmar Hopp Foundation, dievini Hopp BioTech and the Sparkasse Heidelberg bank. The cities of Heidelberg and Mannheim provide active support on a municipal level.

The cluster focuses on a number of topics: the education of highly-qualified executives in the “BioRN Academy”; the targeted development of biopharmaceutical projects from the early phase up until industrial maturity in the “BioRN Incubator”; the combination of scientific excellence in the field of adult stem cells in the “BioREN Stem Cell Network” and research on the seminal field of gene regulation through non-coding sequences in the “BioRN Intro Centre”.
