Peter Bäuerle, chemist and Vice-President of the University of Ulm, was elected member of the BioRegionUlm board of directors, taking over from the former Vice-President of the University of Ulm, Peter Dürre. The Lord Mayor of Ulm, Ivo Gönner, also ran for office and was re-elected.

Bücheler succeeds Nikolaus Rentschler of the Laupheim-based company of the same name, who was chairman of the BioRegionUlm board of directors for six years. During Rentschler's period of office, BioRegioUlm won the Baden-Wüttemberg cluster competition in 2008 with its "BioPharMaXX" concept, and was the only biotech cluster selected in the competition. BioPharMaXX is being funded by the EU, Baden-Württemberg and BioRegionUlm for three years with a total of 600,000 euros to strengthen the cooperation and pooling of the regional players.

"After an excellent start, we will be focusing on further topics and working to bring the network of active life sciences players even closer together," said Bücheler speaking after the election, and calling on small- and medium-sized companies to actively participate in the cluster.
