Gold for the Faculty of Biology at the University of Freiburg

The latest ranking of the renowned Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE) awarded two gold medals and one silver medal to the Freiburg Faculty of Biology, confirming that it is among the best in Europe.

In the “CHE Ranking of Excellent European Graduate Programmes in Natural Sciences”, the CHE awarded approximately 500 departments at some 250 universities in 20 European countries with either bronze, silver or gold medals. Only faculties with three or more silver medals were accepted in the ‘excellence’ group. Criteria were the number of publications, citations compared to the world standard, the number of outstanding scientists and participation in the Marie Curie programme of the European Union.

In the latest national CHE research ranking, which focuses exclusively on university research, Freiburg’s Biology Faculty once again came out at the top. It was able to position itself in the top group in four of the seven indicators used for assessment.

The dean of the Faculty of Biology, Prof. Dr. Ralf Reski, believes that the excellent results achieved in the two latest CHE rankings are testament to the results achieved in the German excellence initiative and recognises the performance of the Faculty of Biology, which, in recent years, has always been among the best.
