Heidelberg "start-up" wins the German Industry’s Innovation Award 2010

PEPperPRINT GmbH has won the 2010 German Industry’s Innovation Award in the category “Start-Up Companies”. The Heidelberg-based biotechnology company was awarded the prize by the German Minister of Education and Research, Dr. Annette Schavan, at a German industry festive event recently held in the Frankfurt Congress Centre.

A jury consisting of well-known figures from science and industry selected PEPperPrint as the winner from a total of more than 320 applicants from all industrial sectors. The High-Tech Gründerfonds-financed start-up company owns a new, patent-protected laser printing method that enables customized peptide chips to be produced inexpensively. The broad range of different molecules printed onto the peptide chips and the speed and flexibility of the method are unrivaled: From now on, proteomics research will have at its disposal a tool that is comparable to the DNA chips used in genomics research. PEPperPRINT’s technology thus makes a huge contribution to the responses needed to urgent biomedical questions, particularly in the areas of diagnostics and therapy.

Now into its 30th year, the 2010 German Industry’s Innovation Award was awarded in the Frankfurt Congress Centre on 19th February 2011 by Research Minister Dr. Annette Schavan, the sponsor of the award. The festive event to which 2,500 guests from economy, science, politics and society were invited, was organised by Wirtschaftsclub Rhein-Main e.V.. It was impressive evidence of the innovative power and performance of the German economy.

The CEO of PEPperPRINT, Dr. Volker Stadler, and Dr. Ralf Bischoff and Dr. Frank Breitling from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology received the prize in the category “Start-Up Companies” from Dr. Annette Schavan. They commented: “We are very pleased to be awarded this prize, which not only recognises the innovative character of our platform technology, but also our innovation management, market opportunities and our product’s social benefit.” Dr. Bernd Goergen (High-Tech Gründerfonds) added: “The entire PEPperRPINT team is pleased with the award, which not only confirms that we have made the right investments, it is also an incentive for us to continue supporting start-up teams with seed financing, and to continue offering our network and know-how to help them on their path to success.”
