In a meeting held on 9th October 2008, the supervisory board of the Landesstiftung Baden-Württemberg foundation agreed to support research projects with a total of 24.39 million euros in funding. Despite the considerable decrease in financial means due to the current financial crisis, the foundation still makes millions of euros in profits.
In the field of research, the foundation’s research programmes are particularly focused on internationally trend-setting topics of the future. In 2009, the foundation will launch new research programmes in the field of high technology and the life sciences, for which 5 million euros have been set aside.
The current orientation of the foundation’s research priorities is based on the results from two studies carried out in 1999 and 2003, which identified strategically important research topics for Baden-Württemberg. Due to the high dynamics in research, the orientation of the major research fields needs to be assessed on a regular basis and adapted to changing situations where necessary. Therefore, the foundation is to commission a new study for which 0.5 million euros will be available.
