In a public lecture series, the Center for Medicine and Society (ZMG) at the University of Freiburg in cooperation with the Studium generale invites you to the lecture series “Planetary Health.” During six events, the interrelationships between human health, political, economic and social factors as well as the natural systems of the planet will be examined. Scientists from the University of Freiburg, the Free University of Berlin, the University of Basel, Michigan State University in the US and the Helmholtz-Centre for Environmental Research in Leipzig will give lectures with different focal points.

Prof. Dr. Hajo Grundmann, head of the Institute for Infection Prevention and Hospital Hygiene at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg and ZMG spokesperson, will kick off the series with his lecture “Plagues and Peoples: Evolution and Destiny of Pandemic Disease” on October 25, 2021.

The lecture series takes place on six Mondays, usually in the Large Lecture Hall of the Women’s Hospital at Hugstetter Straße 55. Admission is from 17.45 pm; the lectures begin 6 pm c.t. The event will be held in English or German, depending on the date.

The number of participants is limited to 165 in the lecture hall due to Corona regulations, the 3G regulation and a mask mandate apply. Participants who do not identify themselves as vaccinated or recovered will need a PCR test or a day-old official rapid test. As required by authorities, contact information for those in attendance will also be collected.

The fourth lecture will be digitally transmitted via zoom: Prof. Dr. Jamie Monson from Michigan State University will speak on “Producing Knowledge in the Anthropocene: A Field Guide to Boundary Crossing” on December 06, 2021.
