Can interconnected digital assistance systems enhance the quality of life of people in older age? Scientists in an interdisciplinary research project at Heidelberg University are exploring this question in a representative practice study. The participating researchers want to investigate how well these technical aids can be used and what benefit they achieve.

EHR and PHR: digital records in the German healthcare system

EHRs, i.e. electronic health records (German: Patientenakte, ePA), are hailed as the key to increasing the quality of care. The Appointment Service and Supply Act (TSVG), adopted on 14th March 2019, requires the German statutory health insurance funds to provide policyholders with electronic health records from 1st January 2021 onwards.

Medical technology plays a key role in health and makes a contribution to improving quality of life. The spectrum of medical technology ranges from disposable products, IT-based applications to innovative technologies. In Baden-Württemberg, 836 companies are active in research, development and/or production in this field, making medical technology one of the most important economic sectors in the state.
