Funding for three Collaborative Research Centres at DZHK sites

The German Research Foundation (DFG) is establishing new Collaborative Research Centres and extending existing research networks. Several DZHK sites are also involved. Particular emphasis is being placed on new research approaches to inflammation and thrombosis.

The newly established Collaborative Research Centre 1784, “InTraC, is coordinated at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. The consortium investigates how inflammatory processes and blood coagulation interact. Both processes play a central role in cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction and stroke. The aim of the consortium is to gain a better understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms and to develop new therapeutic approaches.

In addition, two existing Collaborative Research Centres with participation from DZHK sites are being further funded:

  • Collaborative Research Centre “Damage Control by the Stromal–Vascular Compartment”
(Goethe University Frankfurt, speaker: Professor Ralf P. Brandes)
  • Collaborative Research Centre “Molecular Circuits of Heart Disease”
(University of Heidelberg, speaker: Professor Johannes Backs)

In mid-May, the German Research Foundation (DFG) announced 13 new Collaborative Research Centres nationwide, as well as the continuation of funding for numerous existing consortia.
