Hahn-Schickard Becomes a gGmbH – Karl-Peter Fritz Is the New Managing Director
Effective July 1, the Hahn-Schickard-Gesellschaft für angewandte Forschung e.V. (Hahn-Schickard Association for Applied Research e.V.) will spin off its operational business and transfer it to the newly founded Hahn-Schickard gGmbH. This nonprofit company has assumed the universal legal succession of the association and has been entered in the commercial register of the Stuttgart District Court. It is legally represented by its managing director, Dr. Karl-Peter Fritz. The 43-year-old mechanical engineer, who holds a doctorate, has held various positions at the Hahn-Schickard Institute in Stuttgart since 2007, most recently as part of the institute’s management team.
The main reason for the spin-off is that the budget has grown to over 40 million euros in recent years. “The new legal structure will provide the appropriate organizational framework to successfully continue our applied research activities at our locations in Villingen-Schwenningen, Freiburg, and Stuttgart,” explains Managing Director Karl-Peter Fritz.
In terms of its core activities, Hahn-Schickard remains unchanged: The three research institutes in Villingen-Schwenningen, Stuttgart, and Freiburg operate under the umbrella of the gGmbH. They will continue to focus on research and development in the fields of sensor technology, microsystems engineering, microelectronics and electronic packaging, embedded systems and AI, medical technology and life sciences, as well as molecular diagnostics. As a member of the Innovation Alliance Baden-Württemberg, Hahn-Schickard helps drive technology transfer through manufacturing and spin-offs. Ongoing projects and collaborations will continue as usual under Hahn-Schickard gGmbH.
Elke Pahleteg and Clemens Pecha, who have managed the association’s affairs, will continue to hold key positions at Hahn-Schickard gGmbH.
The former Hahn-Schickard Gesellschaft für angewandte Forschung e.V. will remain the sole shareholder of Hahn-Schickard gGmbH and will operate under the new name Hahn-Schickard-Förderverein für angewandte Forschung e.V. (Hahn-Schickard Booster Association for Applied Research, e.V.) effective immediately.
