    Scientists find explanation for formation of connections between nerve cells

    Multiple synaptic contacts between nerve cells facilitate the creation of a new contact as neuroscientists from the Bernstein Center Freiburg and the Forschungszentrum Jülich report in the latest issue of the journal PLoS Computational Biology. An integral mechanism of memory foundation is the formation of additional contacts between neurons in the brain.

    KIT takes off – University of Karlsruhe and the Karlsruhe Research Centre merged into one single entity on 1st October 2009

    Almost three years after winning the German government’s Excellence Initiative, the idea has now become reality: On 1st October 2009, the University of Karlsruhe and the Karlsruhe Research Centre (Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe) merged to become a single legal entity known as the KIT, according to the Act on the Establishment of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.

    New Research Programme BioInterfaces launched

    The research center Karlsruhe of the Helmholtz Association and the University of Karlsruhe are represented in the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. The programme BioInterfaces brings together a team of scientist of several fields to build up a link between science and teachings. 67 research teams develop with an annual budget of approximately 20 Million Euro innovative tools and technologies for precisely controlling the behaviour of cells.

    Great opportunities for the bioliq® method developed by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology

    Baden-Württemberg’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Ernst Pfister, believes that the target of ten percent biofuels that was introduced to stop emission growth can only be reached with new technologies. “In terms of the target, I envisage excellent opportunities for the bioliq® process developed by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology,” said Pfister speaking on 15th December 2008 in Stuttgart.
